What are Dental Implants?
A dental implant is a form of permanent tooth replacement offered by many dental offices. Patients with missing teeth, whether due to accident, trauma or disease, can be ideal candidates for dental implants, and the promise they offer to transform lives.
Comprised of a surgical grade titanium post that is inserted into the jaw bone –the procedure is performed right in the dental office. Your dentist will apply a local anesthetic to ensure patient comfort. A special cap covers the implant while the area heals.
Once healing has occurred, the temporary cap is removed and replaced by a permanent restoration. An abutment attaches the restoration to the implant, which permits attachment of the permanent restoration such as a fixed bridge, crown, or denture.
Benefits of Dental Implants
These are just a few of the many benefits dental implants offers you:
- Restored confidence when smiling or chewing
- Strength and durability
- Preservation of underlying bone
- Prevention of bone loss and tooth shifting
- Function just like a natural tooth e.g. normal eating and talking
Your dentist may recommend the use of dental implants instead of other solutions such as bridges, dentures, and partials. That’s because long-term benefits and patient satisfaction outweigh those of alternative therapies. With dental implants, patients enjoy enhanced aesthetics, functionality, and comfort. Years of scientific and clinical evidence, as well as patient testimonials, support these findings.
